How to Make Dalgona Hojicha
We’re sure you must have heard of the dalgona coffee trend by now. The term dalgona originated in South Korea and is named after the popular Korean honeycomb toffee candy. We did our rendition of a dalgona matcha awhile back, and due to its popularity decided to give our hojicha a try!
Have you tried hojicha before? Hojicha is a traditional Japanese tea made from roasted green tea leaves and carries a very robust and nutty flavour. It’s distinctive from other Japanese green teas because of its unique roasting process. Hojicha is fired at high temperatures that alter its colour from green to reddish brown.
Similarly to matcha, our hojicha powder is ground down into a very fine powder that can be used in lattes, blended beverages and culinary delights.
Ingredients:Makes 2 beverages, halve recipe for single portion.
- 6 tbsp. Aquafaba (liquid from can of chickpeas)
- 2 tsp. Soar Organics Hojicha Powder
- 1 tbsp. Sugar
- 1 tbsp. Boiling Water
- 2 cups Plant Milk
- Handful of Ice
Steps:You will need a stand or hand mixer for this recipe.
- Begin by whipping your aquafaba liquid for at least 5 minutes on low to medium speed, or until stiff peaks form, with a stand or hand mixer. Mix until you achieve a fluffy foam consistency. Set aside.
- In a small bowl whisk together hojicha powder and sugar.
- Bring water to a boil and add 1 tbsp. to your hojicha powder and sugar mixture. Whisk together until all sugar crystals have dissolved completely.
- Slowly add to your aquafaba foam, and mix on low speed until well combined.
- Fill your cup halfway with a handful of ice and your choice of plant milk.
- Scoop in your hojicha foam to assemble your dalgona hojicha. Enjoy!
